Military expert explains how Russia managed to strike Kyiv children's hospital
Ukrainian military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko has analyzed Russian attack on Kyiv children's hospital on July 8. He refered to the visualization of missile trajectories and the types of weapons used published by the Monitor Telegram channel
Military expert on Telegram drew attention to the types of missiles that were used in the attack on Kyiv.
-
Kh-101/555 (air-launched subsonic cruise missile with a maximum speed of 960 km/h), launched from the Caspian Sea region with separation into different trajectories during flight;
-
3M14 Kalibr (sea-based subsonic cruise missile with a maximum speed of 960 km/h), launched from the Azov Sea;
-
Kh-47M2 Kinzhal (aeroballistic missile, speed over 10,000 km/h);
-
3M22 Zirkon (speed less than 10,000 km/h).
"Various missiles struck Kyiv from 10:15 to 10:45, demonstrating a highly synchronized attack. In other words, Kyiv's air defense had to repel a diverse array of destructive weapons within an extremely short timeframe. Each type of missile, with its unique technical specifications, requires specific countermeasures. Russia employed varied flight paths, significantly dispersing defensive attention," Kovalenko stated.
He noted that the Russian strike was carefully planned.
"Once again, we lacked air defense capabilities, especially on the approaches. Just look at the map: if we had sufficient anti-aircraft missile systems in Chernihiv and Sumy regions, where the Kh-101/555 flew over, we could have intercepted a significant portion of these missiles. The Kalibr missiles flew all over Ukraine. Ukraine lacks the air defenses to fully secure its airspace. While our Western partners hesitate to address this issue, Russia exploits the situation to expand its influence through terror tactics," Kovalenko concluded.
