'Kursk is minor card': political scientist suggests ways to pressure Russia
Political expert Volodymyr Tsybulko believes the Ukrainian authorities are underutilizing their leverage against Russia
He shared this opinion on Espreso.
“Kursk is a minor card in negotiations with Putin, in my view. But blocking any transit through the Black Sea and halting Russian shipping would be a strong move — not to mention shutting down shipping in the Sea of Azov. Frankly, it seems like the Ukrainian government is only using a fraction of its potential to pressure Russia. For instance, they should focus on cutting off the supply of military components and limiting Russia's oil and gas markets, especially oil,” he stated.
Tsybulko also pointed out the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ukraine.
“So, India came, and what was the outcome of the talks with Modi? Sure, he said things that sounded good in Kyiv, emphasizing Ukraine’s territorial integrity, which Ukrainians like very much. But after leaving Kyiv, did India stop buying Russian oil? That’s still funding Russia’s war against Ukraine,” the political scientist noted.
- On Friday, August 23, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kyiv, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy later mentioned that one of their discussion topics was the Peace Summit.
