Fire at ZNPP is a planned move by Russia — energy expert Omelchenko
Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center, believes that Russia's intention was to draw global attention to the fire at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in order to pressure Ukraine into ending the "Kursk operation"
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"It should be noted that the fire occurred in a cooling tower approximately 150 meters high, designed primarily for cooling water. This cooling tower is situated around 1.5 kilometers from the nearest unit, the sixth unit of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Currently, there is no serious danger to the plant. In addition, the cooling tower is hollow, there is nothing there except for the water that comes there through the pipes and the air that comes from below through the holes to cool this water, as well as further circulation to cool the relevant areas. I believe that this was a planned event by the Russian Federation to demonstrate such a PR effect in the world in order to accuse Ukraine and apply pressure to end the so-called Kursk operation," said the director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center.
Volodymyr Omelchenko summarized that, in his opinion, this was Russia’s primary objective. Currently, the fire does not pose any threats or radiation hazards.
