Donetsk region’s fate is being decided in Chasiv Yar - military expert
Yevhen Dykyi, a former Aidar platoon commander, says heavy fighting continues for Chasiv Yar, but Russian forces are not advancing in the town
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
“I think that the Russians do not have a goal to capture Chasiv Yar by a specific date. However, they definitely have a goal to capture Chasiv Yar. Because this is not an operational level, but a strategy. The fate of the Donetsk region is being decided in Chasiv Yar. In particular, the entire part of the Donetsk region that is not occupied by the Russians. The fact is that Chasiv Yar is the dominant height. If we lose these heights, it will be very difficult to recapture them later. The Russians will also have the opportunity to target Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Sloviansk and Kramatorsk,” explained Dykyi.
The expert noted that difficult battles for Chasiv Yar are ongoing.
“It will be difficult not only to counter the shelling of these cities, but it will be difficult to restrain the occupiers' advance. So far, Chasiv Yar is holding out. There are very difficult battles for this city. We are moving our reserves there. And it is very significant for me that the HUR's special units were transferred there. So far, fortunately, the Russians have not made any advances there,” he added.
- On May 11, 108 combat clashes took place at the frontline. In the Donetsk region, Russian troops are attacking Ukrainian Defense Forces in the direction of Chasiv Yar and Pokrovsk the most.
