Crimean bridge helps disable Russian air defense systems: Ukraine's Navy explains how

Russian forces periodically transport advanced air defense systems to Crimea via the Crimean bridge, allowing the Ukrainian army to destroy them there

Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said this during a telethon.

According to him, the invading troops periodically "bring the latest air defense systems to Crimea for utilization" through the bridge: S-400 Triumf, S-500 Prometheus.

"Why prevent the Russian invaders from utilizing them by pulling these defense systems from other lines? Indeed, it is sometimes surprising how zealously they do this, given that Russia itself periodically explodes and they might be needed there... But they are systematically brought to Crimea for disposal," Pletenchuk said.

The spokesperson commented on the possibility of the destruction of the Crimean bridge, which is more than 18 km long.

"The length does not really matter here, because it is enough to destroy one section for it to cease to exist. And the more such sections are destroyed, the more difficult it will be to restore them. But this is a location where all the capabilities of our enemy and our capabilities converge. Yes, there is an echeloned defense there - this is a fact. And one way or another, there is a large number of (Russian - ed.) aviation in the air, and anti-drone work is carried out by helicopters," the Navy spokesman explained.

He emphasized that the bridge is doomed in any case and it is a matter of time, as well as the presence of warships in the Novorossiysk basing point.

"This is a kind of last fortification in the Black Sea. The destruction of the bridge will complicate logistics for the Russians, which is already extremely difficult for them," Pletenchuk said.

He added that currently there are 5 Russian airfields in the temporarily occupied Crimea, two of which are already without aircraft.

  • The attack on the Slavyanin ferry in the port of Kavkaz is likely to cause further logistical problems for Russia in supplying its occupation forces in southern Ukraine, the UK Ministry of Defense reports.
