UK intelligence assesses impact of Ukrainian strike on Russian Slavyanin ferry
The attack on the Slavyanin ferry at the Kavkaz port is expected to create additional logistical challenges for Russia in supplying its troops in southern Ukraine
The UK Defense Ministry reported the information.
"The strike will almost certainly cause Russia further logistical problems with the supply of its forces in southern Ukraine and regional liquefied petroleum gas exports," the statement says.
The ferry has the largest cargo capacity of the three rail ferries in the Kerch Strait between Russia and the Crimean peninsula.
The intelligence suggests that the disruption of the ferries, even if temporary, will increase costs and reduce Russia's flexibility in transporting fuel, ammunition, and equipment through the Kerch Strait.
"It is likely that Russia will now have to risk the movement of fuel trains across the Kerch Bridge, which it has been trying to avoid since the first attack on the bridge in October 2022," the intelligence added.
- On July 23, the Ukrainian Defense Forces damaged the Russian Slavyanin ferry in the port of Kavkaz, Krasnodar region.
