Russian missile violates Moldova's airspace during missile attack on Ukraine
During the large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine on December 25, the military in Moldova detected the flight of one of the missiles over their territory
The Moldovan government’s press service reported the information.
"This morning, on Christmas Day, Russia once again targeted Ukraine's energy system, deploying a full arsenal of missiles and drones. Currently, no disruptions have been reported in the energy system of the Republic of Moldova, which is connected to Ukraine," the statement reads.
According to Moldova's border police, one Russian missile was spotted by a patrol near the Yampil–Cosăuți area. Another missile crossed Moldova's airspace near Otaci–Mohyliv-Podilskyi, exiting through the border with Romania near Dorohoi–Hertsa.
The route information has been confirmed by Moldovan military officials, who are conducting additional investigations.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu also confirmed that a Russian missile violated Moldova's airspace overnight. She stated that on Christmas Day, "Kremlin chooses destruction - targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and violating Moldova’s airspace with a missile."
"... actions that clearly violate international law. Moldova condemns these acts and stands in full solidarity with Ukraine," the Moldovan president wrote on X.
During the attack, at around 7:30 AM, Ukraine's Air Force reported a cruise missile heading toward Chernivtsi from Moldovan territory.
Monitoring groups claim the Russian missile traveled 140 kilometers across Moldova and Romania, entering from near the city of Yampil in Vinnytsia (close to the Moldovan border) and exiting near Dorohoi, a Romanian town at the Moldovan border.
