At least 50 Ukrainian MPs suspected of criminal offenses
Sofiia Lazarova, an analyst with the CHESNO movement, has said that law enforcement agencies have issued criminal suspicion notices to 50 Ukrainian lawmakers from the current convocation
She shared this on Espreso TV.
"Law enforcement agencies publish suspicion notices for MPs, but current legislation usually doesn’t include names - just that a notice has been served. The law says that a person's name shouldn't be disclosed until there's a court verdict. However, the photos released by the authorities are quite recognizable, and the media has also reported on it," Lazarova explained.
According to the analyst, at least 50 MPs have received criminal suspicions from law enforcement. Some of these cases went to court but were dismissed for various reasons. Two cases were closed: one involving Illia Kyva, who was killed in the Moscow region, and another involving Oleksandr Trukhin, who reached a deal with investigators over a road accident, where he offered a bribe to a police officer to cover it up. There was a verdict in Trukhin's case, and he resigned after the court decision.
"Most of the suspicions involve MPs from the pro-Russian Opposition Platform — For Life party, but there are also other types of crimes, such as corruption, bribery, and false declarations. Some cases of false declarations have already been closed, mostly due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, meaning the investigation period ended, and the cases were closed for this reason," Lazarova added.
- The number of particularly serious crimes committed on the orders of Russian special services has doubled in the Kyiv region.
