Russia tries to choke Ukraine’s economy – US Ambassador on grain deal blockade
US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink says that Russia is deliberately trying to slow down the flow of food to other countries instead of complying with the grain deal
She wrote about this on Twitter.
Brink reminded that last month a shipment of grain was sent to Yemen as part of the Grain from Ukraine initiative. It will provide an opportunity to feed 4 million people and demonstrate how the Black Sea Grain Initiative allows Ukrainian farmers to feed the world.
Now, she said, when Russia is blocking the "grain corridor," more than 50 ships in the Bosphorus Strait are waiting for permission to sail to Ukrainian ports to load grain that will be shipped to the countries that need it most.
"Russia is trying to choke the Ukrainian economy and slow down the flow of food instead of abiding by the terms of the agreement," Brink said.
