Russia installs heat traps on Kh-101 missiles - military expert Kyrychevskyi
Defense Express military expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi notes that Russia is trying to modernize its cruise missiles
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"The Russian military decided to install so-called heat traps on the Kh-101 missiles, which are supposed to divert anti-aircraft missiles, specifically missiles of portable air defense systems at the flight stage. This "innovation" on Russian missiles looks threatening because it reflects the general logic of the Russian military-industrial complex. Russia has already realized that we will not be crushed by quantity. And they are trying to make sure that every missile can effectively overcome our air defense system," explained Kyrychevskyi.
The military expert also added that cruise missiles are small aircraft. Its fuselage is only 5 meters long, so not many heat traps can be placed there.
"So, first, a limited number of heat traps can be installed on the missiles. Secondly, the onboard electronics on these missiles can give the command to fire either when approaching the target or when detecting the missile's guidance from a man-portable air defense system, but here, too, technological nuances begin: when should the electronics give the command to fire? Thus, Russia began modernizing the Kh-101 missiles 2 months ago, but for 2 months, these heat traps have never been detected," Kyrychevskyi emphasized.
