Russia has enough rusty assault rifles and padded jackets for everyone: Defense Express editor-in-chief Katkov on prospects of new mobilization
Russia may well mobilize and form infantry units, but it cannot form full-fledged military units
Oleh Katkov, editor-in-chief of Defense Express, said this on Espreso.
"It is important how we measure this mobilization. If we measure it by the creation of full-fledged units, take the mobilized troops and form, for example, motorized rifle units, which are still on the staff of the Russian army in 2021. Even when we were talking about 200,000 we stumbled upon fantastic figures of several thousand tanks, artillery systems, up to 10,000 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers needed. But they were talking about 73 trucks," he said.
According to the expert, Russia is now quite capable of mobilizing and forming infantry units.
"The ability to mobilize and use cannon fodder should in no way correlate with the ability of the defense industry to provide everyone with the necessary set of weapons. There will be enough rusty assault rifles and vatniks (Russian padded jackets - ed.) for everyone, including those who do not want them," Katkov concluded.
