'Three dams to be demolished on Tysa to stop draft dodgers': new Russian manipulation
In fact, the demolition of the dams is intended to restore the natural flow of the river, fish migration, and protect transportation and tourism infrastructure
StopFake reports this, according to Espreso.
Russian sources are spreading information online that three dams will be demolished in the upper reaches of the Tysa River (or Tisza, as it also spelt) to increase the flow and prevent men of military age from leaving Ukraine illegally. Some even advise not to endanger themselves and instead cross the border through “fields and corn.”
Dams will be demolished, but to restore the natural look of the rivers
As previously reported by Espreso, three dams will be demolished in the Rakhiv district this year to restore the natural condition of the rivers on the upper Tysa and preserve the transport infrastructure.
The dams planned for demolition are located on the territory of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve (on the Kvasnyi, Bohdan, and Bilyi streams). Today, they do not play any economic role.
"The two dams (on the Kvasnyi and Bohdan streams) are the remnants of dams that were built during the Austro-Hungarian period to intensively export Carpathian timber. Today, they are a source of man-made disasters and economic losses, as they direct riverbeds toward the road, destroying transportation infrastructure. The third dam (on the Bilyi Stream) is an embankment that creates the effect of a canalized river. After the floods in 1998, they tried to keep the remnants of the surviving roads from being washed away," the report says.
