Ukraine’s drones with 250 kg bombs proving highly effective in strikes on Russia — expert
Today, both the technological foundation for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation and the tactics of their use are being improved
Defense Express development director Valerii Riabykh stated this on Espreso TV.
“Ukrainian industry is currently producing dozens of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including adapted civilian light aircraft. This process began earlier when 100-kilogram high-explosive fragmentation bombs were installed on these planes as warheads, allowing them to strike targets up to 2,000 km away. Now, the payload capacity of these aircraft has increased to 250 kg. Additionally, these bombs can now be dropped, allowing the aircraft to be reused,” he said.
The UAVs that was previously used to carry 100 kg over 2,000 km has now been optimized, increasing the payload. Thanks to modern control systems, these light aircraft can operate as drone bombers, striking enemy targets and returning to base, Riabykh added.
According to him, this type of bomb is highly effective against targets that lack significant protection. While it may not destroy heavily fortified structures, which require a different type of bomb, most targets of the Defense Forces can be effectively struck.
“These aircraft can be used in coordinated air attacks alongside other UAVs, enabling them to penetrate enemy air defense nodes and reach their targets,” the military expert stated.
- Defense Express recently reported that Ukrainian strike drones can now deploy full-fledged 250 kg aerial bombs.
