Russia spreads fake about Ukraine's intention to use chemical weapons in Donetsk, Kherson sectors
Russian Telegram channels spread information that Ukraine's army is allegedly preparing a chemical weapons attack in the Donetsk and Kherson areas
Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation reports.
It is noted that Ukraine, as a signatory to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons, strictly adheres to its obligations.
"Therefore, such messages from the Russians against the Ukrainian Armed Forces are fake, aimed at discrediting Ukraine in the eyes of the international community and weakening its support from Western allies," the Center for Countering Disinformation said.
Instead, the Russians do use chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military, despite the fact that Russia is a signatory to the Convention. Moreover, the invaders boast about it, publishing relevant videos with evidence of violations online.
"Without providing any evidence, Russian propaganda uses reflection tactics, accusing Ukraine of crimes committed by its own army. These attempts are doomed to failure," the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized.
- In May, the Russians used chloropicrin, a "choking agent" widely used during World War I, as well as tear gas against Ukrainian troops.
