Research on Iranian drones: Russia threatens to "review cooperation" with UN
Russia threatens to "review cooperation" with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres if he sends experts to investigate the use of UAVs in Ukraine.
This was stated by Deputy Russian Ambassador to the UN Dmitry Polyansky, speaking after a closed meeting of the UN Security Council regarding Moscow's use of Iranian drones, Russian media reports.
“Otherwise, we will have to reconsider our cooperation with them, which is hardly in anyone's interests. We do not want to do this, but there will be no other way out,” he said.
Both Iran and Russia argue that Guterres does not have a mandate to send experts to Ukraine to investigate the use of drones.
In a letter sent to Guterres, Iran's Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, said that the invitation of UN experts to Ukraine "does not have any legal basis" and called on Guterres to "prevent any abuse" of the UN resolution on issues related to the war in Ukraine.
