Rammstein-3 Contact Group on Defence of Ukraine starts at the NATO Headquarters in Brussel
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said in his opening remarks that Ukraine was "currently at a significant moment on the battlefield."
"Today we are here due to our unwavering commitment to give Ukraine an opportunity to defend itself immediately. I am grateful for all the help that has already been given in this group, but we cannot stop and lose pace. The stakes are too high. Ukraine is at a significant moment on the battlefield. We see what President Zelensky warned us about. After the failure to capture Kyiv and set new military targets, Russia has shifted its focus to Donbas. And we cannot underestimate the challenge Ukraine is facing." Austin emphasised.
It is known that this is the third meeting between the heads of the Ministry of Defence and the chiefs of staff from more than 50 countries, which addresses the issue of Ukraine's support in the war with Russia. The topics and goals of the Rammstein talks are the urgent needs of Ukraine, which are necessary to counter Russian aggression.
"We must step up our efforts to support Ukrainian self-defence and demand more from ourselves to make sure that Ukraine can protect itself, its citizens and its territory. But make no mistakes. Russia's unjustified aggression is not only a threat to Ukraine but to security in all of Europe," the Pentagon chief said.
