Putin's war threatens principles underlying international order - US and Japanese Foreign Ministers' joint statement
During the meeting of the US-Japan Security Advisory Committee, held on Wednesday in Washington, the countries have made a statement condemning Russia's actions and expressing support for Ukraine
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi announced the joint statement during a press conference following the meeting, Ukrinform reported.
“We stand together with Ukraine against President Putin’s war, which threatens the principles at the heart of the international rules-based order – including that all nations should be able to chart their own path, and have their sovereignty, their independence, their territorial integrity respected,” Blinken said in a statement.
He also stressed that when nations stand together, they become stronger.
Hayashi, for his part, confirmed that the Russian aggression against Ukraine “shakes the foundation of international order.”
He noted that during the meeting in Washington, the parties aligned in their views that Russia resorts to “reckless nuclear rhetoric and attacks against civilian infrastructure.” In addition, according to him, Washington and Tokyo “concurred to continue our strong support to Ukraine.”
At the same time, Hayashi stressed that Japan and the US share a common concern over strengthening cooperation between China and Russia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed other issues, including the security situation in the Pacific region, support for democratic values and human rights, protection of the rule of law in the world, overcoming global challenges.
