Putin wants to strip people of Russian passports for "fake war news"
The Russian leader proposes stripping people who were given Russian citizenship when their lands "joined" Russia of their passports for "misdemeanors".
This is reported by Meduza.
Russian President Vladimir Putin made an amendment to the draft law (approved in the first reading) on the possibility of confiscating Russian passports from those who spread “fake news about the war.” The norm will not apply to those who were born directly in Russia, but to people who acquired this citizenship. For example, due to the “accession of territories occupied by Russia.”
According to the publication, Putin added to the list of "crimes" for which citizenship can be revoked. The list includes: spreading fake news about the Russian Armed Forces and discrediting the Russian army, insulting the flag and coat of arms of Russia, participating in the activities of an undesirable organization, calls for separatism and encroachment on the life of a statesman, as well as calls for extremism.
The decision to deprive citizenship can be made regardless of when exactly the person "made a mistake".
