Portugal says it won't give fighter jets to Ukraine
Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa says his country has no red lines on providing Ukraine with fighter jets, but also has no way to do so
He said this on February 9 in Brussels, CNN reports.
“It’s not a red line,” Costa told journalists.
He also noted that all 27 F-16 AM fighters that Portugal has are intended to participate in various NATO programs.
“That’s an area where we simply don’t have the possibility [of giving to Ukraine], given that the means we have are all allocated to missions that we cannot do without,” he said.
He emphasized that Portugal has been doing everything possible to support Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. According to him, peace is possible only on Ukraine's terms.
“Peace is our objective. War is a means to achieve peace and this war, it should be reminded, was not started by Ukraine, Ukraine is the victim of war. The moment, the terms and conditions for peace can only be defined by Ukraine,” Costa emphasized.
