Poland confirms partnership with US to construct first nuclear power plant
Warsaw wants its first nuclear power station running by 2033 to secure energy supplies
This is reported by the Polish government.
On November 2, the Council of Ministers adopted a resolution on the construction of large-scale nuclear power plants in Poland. The construction of the first station will begin on the basis of American AP1000 reactor technology in 2026, and in 2033 - the first unit will be put into operation.
“Poland has never been so close to the construction of a nuclear power plant as today. The decision to confirm the strategic partnership with the US brings us closer to the implementation of this project. The choice of American technology will not only strengthen Poland's energy security, but will also become a significant development impetus for our economy,” the Minister of Climate and Environment, Anna Moskwa said.
Moskwa emphasized that the construction of the NPP will ensure the sovereignty and energy security of the state and will also constitute a significant development impulse for Poland’s economy.
“The choice of technology for the first nuclear power plant in Poland actually brings us closer to the implementation of this strategic project, and the proper provision of financing for the construction of large-scale nuclear power plants in Poland will allow reducing electricity prices, while taking into account the interests of end consumers,” the minister added.
The confirmation by the Council of Ministers of the strategic partnership with the US is a key step in the process of selecting a supplier for the construction of nuclear power units, which is carried out with the involvement of the Polish Nuclear Power Plants company.
