Poland can supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine in coming weeks
Ukraine may receive Leopard 2 tanks from Poland within a few weeks. The equipment will be transferred as soon as the Ukrainian military undergoes training
Radio Plus reported the information citing a statement by Polish Deputy Defense Minister Wojciech Skurkiewicz.
"I am convinced that Poland will supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine within a few weeks," he said, answering the question when Leopard 2 tanks will arrive in Ukraine.
According to him, as soon as the Ukrainian military is trained, Poland will be "ready to provide this equipment to the Ukrainian side."
In addition, the deputy defense minister added that Poland is intensively creating a tank coalition of states, and reminded that there are currently more than 2,000 Leopards in Europe.
Also, when asked whether the heavy equipment would help Ukraine launch a counteroffensive, the politician replied that "all actions have been taken to ensure that Ukraine can win the war."
The deputy minister emphasized that according to intelligence, Russia is planning to launch an offensive against Ukraine and will "strike from the territory of Belarus" again.
On January 25, it was announced that Ukraine would receive 14 Leopard 2 tanks from the Bundeswehr, and Germany allowed partner countries to provide Ukrainian defenders with German tanks from their own stocks.
At the same time, Spain changed its decision to provide Ukraine with heavy weapons to counter Russian aggression. Madrid may now send Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to Spiegel, Ukraine is to receive 80 tanks from its Western partners: two Leopard battalions could be provided to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the end of March.
