Pentagon and U.S. arm suppliers to hold meeting regarding weapons production
Pentagon leaders are to meet with defense industry representatives to discuss the surge in demand for weapons from U.S. allies due to Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Reuters reported the information with reference to the statement of the Pentagon spokesperson, Eric Pahon.
According to Pahon, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks will hold a closed-door meeting with leading U.S. defence companies.
The publication claims that concerns are growing among Pentagon officials that top U.S. defence suppliers will struggle to meet a surge in orders for weapons from European nations such as Germany and Poland, as Russian President Vladimir Putin's ambitions in the region grow.
Ukraine and the development of hypersonic weapons were the main topics of previous meetings between Pentagon officials and U.S. leading arms manufacturers.
"We have heard the concerns from industry regarding supply-chain challenges and workforce issues – and we share them," the Pentagon's chief weapons buyer Bill LaPlante responded to Reuters.
Reuters adds that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has prompted countries such as the United States and Germany to raise their defense spending to record levels.
