OSCE Parliamentary Assembly recognizes Russia as state sponsor of terrorism
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and the private mercenary Wagner Group as a terrorist organization
Yevgeniya Kravchuk, a member of the Ukrainian delegation to the assembly, reported this on Facebook.
Kravchuk noted that on Tuesday, members of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted a final declaration. According to her, the document states that terrorism poses one of the greatest threats to international peace and security, and the the Wagner Group's actions on behalf of the Russian government can rightly be characterized as terroristic in nature and intent. The declaration emphasizes Russian dictator Vladimir Putin publicly admitting that Wagner was fully financed by the state.
Also Kravchuk emphasized that according to the document, OSCE member states should take measures against Wagner and its structures, including by designating it as a terrorist organization.
“The most important thing is that the OSCE PA calls on member states to strengthen international norms that clearly recognize the terrorist nature of the Wagner Group and its actions, the responsibility of the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of this terrorist organization, and the inadmissibility of involving such entities in interstate relations," added a member of the Ukrainian delegation to the assembly.
Yevheniya Kravchuk emphasized that such wording is enshrined for the first time in an official document of an international organization.
"By the way, a similar term, 'state sponsor of terrorism,' is recognized in the legislation of the United States, which is also a member of the OSCE. I hope that this decision will become a catalyst for recognizing the aggressor state as a sponsor of terrorism not only in the United States but also worldwide. Terrorism should not go unnoticed and should face fair punishment," she concluded.
It should be noted that the summer session of the OSCE PA took place from June 30 to July 4 in Vancouver, Canada. Within the framework of the session, the OSCE PA adopted a decision to establish a special committee on Ukraine to facilitate consultations among parliamentarians from the 57 participating countries regarding assistance to Ukrainians affected by Russia's invasion.
Recall that on November 21, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly recognized Russia as a state-terrorist and called for the establishment of a special international tribunal to hold Russian criminals accountable.
On November 13, the PACE recognized the Russian regime as terrorist.
In addition, this recognition has been made by a number of other countries, including Latvia's Saeima, which recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism in August.
On November 23, Members of the European Parliament voted to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
