North Macedonia to transfer T-72 tanks to Ukraine
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of North Macedonia says it will transfer T-72 tanks to Kyiv. The third-generation tanks come from a battalion due to be disbanded as part of a modernization of the country’s army.
Macedonian RTS edition shared the news.
A column of Macedonian T-72 tanks is headed for Ukraine on July 28. The Macedonian Ministry of Defense does not specify the exact number of transferred equipment at the moment.
The Macedonian army has 31 vehicles of this type. These tanks were handed over to the authorities in Skopje by Russia in 2000 during the uprising of the National Liberation Army of Ali Ahmeti.
The Macedonian Ministry of Defense explained the decision to give tanks to Ukraine by the fact that in a few years these machines will be uncompetitive - as part of the modernization of the army, the country's authorities soon plan to replace them with modern anti-tank vehicles.
In addition, almost at the same time, Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovskii accused Russia of interfering in the internal political affairs of North Macedonia. He stated that Moscow finances certain political entities in the country.
"All state institutions know that Russia interferes in our internal affairs. The last time it happenes through its people, its political subjects... Russian agents, that is, people from the Russian services, come as well. I cannot publicly say from where, because it is confidential information," said Pendarovsky.
The Macedonian president did not want to comment on which political structures the Russian Federation finances.
