Russia kills, injures 2 children in Ukraine daily since start of September - UNICEF
Since the beginning of the school year on September 2, at least 8 Ukrainian children have been killed and 39 injured as a result of continuous Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians
This was stated by Munir Mammadzade, UNICEF Representative in Ukraine, in a press release.
After analysing the data on the dead and injured, the fund concluded that on average, at least two children were among the victims every day.
‘These attacks not only claim young lives, but also cause terrible long-term physical and psychological trauma for survivors, their families, and communities,’ UNICEF said.
They added that at least 27 educational institutions have been damaged or destroyed since the start of the school year.
‘The war in Ukraine has triggered an acute child protection crisis. According to our estimates, 1.5 million children are at risk of developing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder or other mental health problems. This number will only grow if steps are not taken to protect children's lives,’ the organisation said.
UNICEF called for everything possible to be done to prevent attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
- Last month, the State Emergency Service and the UN Children's Fund UNICEF prepared rescue tips for situations where a person with a child is caught in the middle of the destruction after missile attack.
