NATO steps up deliveries, coordinating further support for Ukraine in its resistance to Russian invasion - Stoltenberg
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says that NATO and its allies are working together to help Ukraine to defend itself against Russia.
He made the statement at NATO Headquarters in Brussels during a briefing before a meeting of the Contact Group on Support for Ukraine.
Asked whether NATO has enough weapons in Ukraine, Jens Stoltenberg said he would meet today to discuss the issue with Ukraine's defense minister.
"This will be an opportunity for Defense Minister Reznikov to update us on what Ukraine urgently needs. And for NATO Allies to make new announcements of support to Ukraine. Since 2014 NATO Allies have trained and equipped tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and officers, who are now on the frontline fighting the brutal invasion of President Putin and they make a huge difference," he said.
Stoltenberg stressed that today the Ukrainian Armed Forces are much better trained and armed than in 2014, when the annexation of Crimea began.
The NATO Secretary General assured that the Alliance understands the need for further action by our allies and partners in the field of advanced weapons, defense systems and training of Ukrainian soldiers.
"There will be a meeting tomorrow at the NATO headquarters of the Contact group for support to Ukraine. This is a format that was established at Rammstein Base a couple of months ago and it meets regularly to coordinate efforts by NATO Allies and partners to provide different types of weapons, of military equipment, including heavy weapons to UA. Because they absolutely depend on that to be able to stand up against the brutal Russian invasion," added Stoltenberg.
