More sanctions and terrorist country status. William Taylor calls punishment for Russian missile attacks
US sanctions imposed on Russia have a real impact on its ability to wage war. Still, this pressure should increase in response to the Kremlin's missile terror against peaceful Ukrainians. Russia should be recognized as a sponsor of terrorism.
This was stated by the US ambassador to Ukraine, vice-president of the United States Peace Institute William Taylor, Ukrinform writes.
"The sanctions imposed earlier against Russia are gradually increasing the costs for them," the former ambassador said.
He explained that the Russians could not produce missiles and other modern weapons on an industrial scale because they did not have microchips. Even what they try to get on the black market cannot replace the previous production.
"So the current sanctions have an effect," Taylor said.
However, according to him, "this horror, this genocide, these war crimes, atrocities, attacks on energy facilities must be answered." According to him, there should be more sanctions.
He also expressed his conviction that Russia deserves the status of a state sponsor of terrorism: "What they are doing is obvious terrorism. These are terrorist acts." He claimed such a status for Russia would be a "good next step" on the part of the United States, which would entail even greater sanctions pressure.
Taylor agreed that this remains a difficult decision for the US administration, as there is a need, mainly, to discuss with Russia essential issues in the field of national security, such as non-proliferation and nuclear arms reduction. However, he recalled that a few days ago, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the State Department is now working with Congress to overcome these difficulties.
