Ministry of Justice clarifies what UN resolution on reparations means for Ukraine
The UN resolution on furtherance of remedy and reparation for aggression against Ukraine will enable countries to launch an international compensation mechanism
The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice shared their statement on Facebook.
According to Deputy Minister of Justice Iryna Mudra, the countries that have seized Russian assets will be able to establish an international compensation mechanism.
"The countries that store seized Russian assets now have a legally justified decision and will be able to stop discussions and take real actions regarding the establishment of the international compensation mechanism. Ukraine will offer them to enter into an international agreement on holding the Russian Federation accountable and providing compensation for the damages caused by Russia's aggression," the ministry cited Iryna Mudra.
On November 14, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the establishment of a mechanism to compensate for damages caused to Ukraine by Russian invasion. The Kremlin called this resolution “a way to rob Russia.”
