Russia claims control over 9 villages in northern Kharkiv region. Ukraine says “defensive battles” are ongoing
On Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2024, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the expansion of Russian control to 4 more villages in the northern part of the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. Yesterday, the aggressor country's statement referred to 5 border villages
The press service of the Russian Defense Ministry issued the statement.
These are Hatyshche, Chervone, Morokhovets and Oliinykove settlements of the Kharkiv region.
Russia also confirmed targeting Ukrainian forces in Dehtiarne, Vovchansk and Kozacha Lopan villages.
On Saturday, May 11, Russia said it captured the following villages:
Borysivka, Ohurtsove, Pletenivka, Pylna, and Strilecha.
The Ukrainian side lists the same settlements.
In particular, Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesman for the Khortytsia military unit, gave the following list in a comment to military journalist Andriy Tsapliyenko:
“In Kharkiv region, defensive operations continue near the following villages:
Strilecha,
Krasne,
Morokhovets,
Oliinykove,
Lukyantsi,
Hatyshche,
Pletenivka.
These are border villages. Our troops have been conducting counterattacks there for two days now, defending Ukrainian territory. The enemy is deploying reserves and using significant infantry and armored vehicles, as well as a large number of drones. In the interests of the operation, I cannot say more,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces spokesman said.
