Over 500 Ukrainians from 30 countries apply to join Ukrainian Legion in Poland
In Poland, the recruitment center at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin has received over 500 applications from Ukrainians in 30 countries to join the Ukrainian Legion
According to Ukrinform, the center, which has been operating for a month, reported that 90% of the applicants are men and 10% are women. The applicants come from various backgrounds, including students who are willing to take an academic leave to serve, as well as older people with experience in fields like construction or trucking. About half of the applicants are under 25 years old.
"We receive the most applications from Ukrainians living in Poland and the Czech Republic, but there are also applications from places farther away, like the UK, Ireland, Canada, and the U.S.,” said a representative from the recruitment center.
He added that the most popular military roles among young applicants are UAV operators and stormtroopers, while older applicants are mostly interested in joining logistics units. Women tend to be drawn to medical roles, though some have expressed interest in becoming snipers.
The statement also mentioned that about 80% of those applying to join the Legion have no prior military experience.
Ukrainian Legion
Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, called on all Ukrainians in Europe to join the Ukrainian Legion. He stated that the legion would be equipped with top-tier equipment, and volunteers would be trained by Poland, Lithuania, and other EU countries.
The creation of the Ukrainian Legion is part of the Agreement on Security Guarantees signed by Ukraine and Poland. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that any Ukrainian citizen who joins the legion could sign a contract with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
