Robot warfare: how Ukrainian forces transform frontline realities
Terra unit, part of Ukraine's 3rd Assault Brigade, aims to substitute infantry with unmanned means on the battlefield, Commander Mykola Volokhov states
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
“We have been holding out for almost three years now. If we compare today with the beginning of the full-scale invasion, then we were holding on using secrets, sometimes tricks. In other words, initiative gave rise to innovation. The 3rd Assault Brigade has moved to a concept called 'robot warfare.' We want to replace assault and mechanized infantry on the battlefield with unmanned means as much as possible to save lives,” Volokhov emphasized.
According to the unit's commander, the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade is already using ground-based robotic systems to evacuate the wounded and supply the ammunition to the positions.
“We have a lot of technical innovations - innovations in unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles. So we have launched a campaign and a center. According to information, the 1st Brigade has its own research center. Its task is to put ground robotic systems into service. The task has been partially accomplished so far, and we are already using ground robotic systems to evacuate the wounded and deliver ammunition to the positions. There are also a lot of innovations in drones, including an artificial intelligence-based auto-guidance system. We are currently implementing this system based on thermal imaging cameras, as it works in modern American weapons. We are also carefully analyzing what the enemy has invented,” Volokhov added.
