Merkel can be considered sponsor of Russian invasion of Ukraine - Vitaliy Kulyk
Vitaliy Kulyk, director of the Center for Civil Society Research issues, noted that since 2015, the Russian army was able modernize itself due to the sale of large volumes of Russian energy resources to Germany
This opinion was expressed on the air of Espreso TV channel.
"I am a critic of the Minsk agreements and consider them a mistake of the Ukrainian authorities. These agreements did not give us any respite. We were driven into an awkward situation and were imposed more and more obligations. At some point we could not implement these obligations politically, because this would turn into an internal political conflict in Ukraine. Because neither Poroshenko nor Zelenskyy would be forgiven for capitulating as that was the purpose of the Minsk accords. Germany constructed Nord Stream 2 and obtained gas and energy resources from Russia at dumping prices for German industry and those financial and industrial groups that supported the CDU (Christian Democratic Union, a political party in Germany - ed.). Merkel contributed the most to this. But Ukraine received the invasion of Putin's army, which could modernize itself since 2015 at the expense of money received from the sale of energy resources to a greater extent in Germany. Therefore, Merkel can be considered a sponsor of the Russian invasion of Ukraine," the political scientist stressed.
Vitaliy Kulyk reminded Ukraine's NATO MAP (Membership Action Plan – ed.) was discussed in 2003.
"However, resistance to Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration was primarily from Germany, and only then from pro-Russian political groups in other EU countries. Germany opposed Ukraine's entry into the EU and NATO more than Hungary. Hungary is the main obstacle for Ukraine now. At that time, it was Germany and France. To a greater extent, Germany did not give us the green light, although in 2014 Ukraine was quite ready to join," Kulyk said.
