Mariupol ReBorn: program for reconstruction of Mariupol is launched with support of EBRD
Mariupol's mayor has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which provides for the restoration of the city's infrastructure
The Mariupol City Council announced this on Facebook.
On November 18, Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The press service of the city council notes that “Mariupol ReBorn is the world's largest initiative to rebuild a destroyed city since World War II.”
“We must already have a general idea, a vision of the city's future. No one has any doubt that in this future, the free Ukrainian Mariupol must become better than it was before. Mariupol literally has to be reborn,” Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said.
It was announced that the reconstruction of the city will consist of five major stages: architectural visualization, immediate response plan, damage assessment, strategy creation and its implementation. The EBRD will participate in the development to “quickly and qualitatively bring the destroyed city back to life after de-occupation.”
In addition to the EBRD, the Mariupol ReBorn initiative has been joined by large Ukrainian businesses, the state and other cities of the world, as well as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, and USAID.
The Mariupol City Council also invited local residents to take a survey, which will be used in the development of an architectural vision for the reconstruction of the city.
It is already known that Mariupol ReBorn will be supported by Warsaw: the city is ready to participate in the creation of a hub for the development of Mariupol revival concepts.
“No matter how it sounds, your sacrifices were not in vain. They created this atmosphere of general support for Ukraine, seeing this barbarism that was happening,” the head of the Polish capital, Rafał Trzaskowski, said.
