Map of hostilities in Ukraine as of May 26-27
The fighting has moved to the Severodonetsk and Lyman outskirts, but the general Russian offensive in the Donetsk region slowed down sharply, facing the Ukrainian defense.
Russian troops offensive: map of hostilities
Breakthroughs of the three-week-old front line in Popasna and Kreminna, south and north of the Severodonetsk-Lysychansk agglomeration, led to today's events in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Russian forces transferred their main reserves from Russia and additional forces from Mariupol and Izyum, creating the most powerful concentration of fire on the 100 km frontline during the entire period of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The main concentration of hostilities is now taking place between the southern outskirts of Bakhmut and the northern outskirts of Siversk, as well as around Severodonetsk itself. There are about 40 battalion-tactical groups in this area, which is about 40,000 soldiers.
Severodonetsk (Luhansk region - Ed.)
Russian forces storm the outskirts of the city from three sides. On May 27, they managed to oust the defenders of the city from Purdivka on the northeastern outskirts and take the Myr hotel, as well as the bus station nearby. In the north, no advance was made, and in the south, fighting took place all day in the suburban villages of Metolkine-Syrotyne-Borivske, and on the other side of Siversky Donets they stormed Ustynivka, 10 km from Lysychansk. As the practice of Mariupol has shown, Russian forces don't know how to fight in the city, and therefore it will be methodically destroyed by artillery. It will take quite a while. There are at least 1,500 dead in the city. In total, about 12-13,000 people did not leave the city.
On the side of Popasna, Russian forces tried to attack Komyshuvakha, Vrubivka and Nyrky, but stepped back, leaving a pile of corpses on the field.
Bakhmut (Donetsk region - Ed.)
To see the Bakhmut-Severodonetsk highway and die is the name given to another Russian attempt to break through on the line between Yakovlivka-Belogorivka-Berestove. On May 27, many Russian soldiers died and never saw the 'path of life' for Lysychansk. Their attempts to storm Vasylivka and Nagirne failed.
To the south between Popasna and Gorlivka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces retreated from Troitske, where after the occupation of Svitlodarsk they were threatened by encirclement. In the direction of Bakhmut, Russian forces moved from Pylypchate and after a few kilometers they stopped at a distance of 15 km from the city. A little further south, they drove to Medna Ruda, 20 km away from the city. Bakhmut came under fire from Russian artillery and MLRS. Artemsil, one of the world's largest suppliers of salt, was destroyed nearby in Soledar.
Lyman and Svyatogirsk (Donetsk region - Ed.)
The battles for the strategic city of Lyman continue for the 3d day. The Ukrainian army has not yet been completely expelled from the city, but it has moved to the southwestern parts of the city. Of the 22,000 residents, about 7,000 remain in Lyman. Ukrainian forces will remain on the left bank of the river near Ozerne and Dibrova, as well as near Svyatogirsk. This is the most forested area, which allows Ukrainian soldiers to maneuver. The whole area is under heavy Russian fire.
From the side of Izyum, Russian forces again attacked the Ukrainian positions near Dovgenke. Pontoon bridges are also being prepared for crossing Siversky Donets in the area of Bogorodichny, as well as north of Siversk.
Avdiyivka and south of Donetsk region
Most of the settlements on the frontline are under constant fire, but Russian forces cannot break through the front there.
Cities that are not on the frontline are shelled almost every day. Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and Pokrovsk are shelled the most.
Siversk (north Ukraine - Ed.)
In the Siversky region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces recaptured Rubizhne and are trying to completely push the Russian troops out of the border in the Ternova district.
Anti-aircraft gunners of the 95th Brigade shot down a Russian Ka-52 in the Kharkiv region.
Kharkiv was shelled twice in two days: at least 17 wounded and 7 killed are recordes. Among the dead were a 5-month-old baby and his father.
Russian forces are shelling a large number of settlements between Kharkiv and the Russian border, in particular: Ternova, Prudyanka, Ruski Tyshky, Kutuzivka, Varvarivka, Petrovka, Mykhailivka, Korobochkino.
The border in the Sumy region was again under mortar fire from Russia.
Southern front
In the Kherson region, a group of Ukrainian attack aircraft, Su-25 attack aircraft, neutralized a Russian company-tactical group with equipment and manpower. During the interception flight, Russian newest Su-35 fighter aircraft was shot down by an Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter aircraft, which began operating in 1983.
Vasylivka near Zaporizhzhya was shelled at night on May 28. Earlier in the day, most of the settlements on the frontline were shelled, in particular: Gulyaypole, Orikhiv, Kamyanske, Vremivka, Poltavka, Chervone. Russian forces plan to attack Vasylivka and Orikhiv in the coming days, so they are conducting reconnaissance battles.
Villages between the Kherson region and Mykolayiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions border are under artillery fire. One woman was killed and 14 people were wounded in a Russian attack on the Mykolaiv region.
The Russian forces launched a missile strike with Iskander on the National Guard training ground in Dnipropetrovsk region, killing about 10 people and injuring 35. Also, 3 missiles hit the Dnipro area and caused significant damage to the private sector.
During the week, the Russian military deported 2,856 Mariupol residents, including 318 children.
Western Ukraine
Bearus has moved Iskander tactical missile launchers to the Luninets district of the Brest region, which could be used to shell infrastructure in western Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in Bukovina, a Ukrainian fighter shot down a cruise missile.
