Lavrov says Moldova may become "the next Ukraine"
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moldova could become "the next Ukraine". The official believes that the West put "its own person" in charge of the state.
He told Russian mass media about this on February 2.
"Moldova is now being considered for this role," Lavrov said when asked which neighbouring country of Russia could follow Ukraine's path.
The Russian official traditionally accused the West of interfering in the affairs of the countries of post-Soviet space. According to him, they put "its own person" in charge of Moldova.
"They managed to put a president in charge of the country (using very specific methods, far from free-democratic ones) who is eager to join NATO. She has Romanian citizenship, she is ready to unite with Romania and is generally ready for almost anything," Lavrov said, referring to Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
