Lavrov chooses Brazil for a reason - diplomat Klimkin
Diplomat and Ukraine's Foreign Minister (2014-2019) Pavlo Klimkin believes Putin will fail to make Brazil an ally
He said this on Espreso TV.
“Lavrov 'landed' in Brazil after Lula's (Brazilian President - ed.) visit to China for a reason. Lavrov failed to persuade the Brazilians to accept his logic. Lula would very much like to play an active role, he sees a chance for himself in mediation. For Putin, lining up the entire BRICS (a group of the largest developing countries by area and population, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa - ed.) would be almost ideal. Because Putin wants to show that the non-Western world is opposed to the Western world,” Klimkin said.
According to the diplomat, Lavrov wants to coordinate with Brazil and China.
“But India has a separate position. The Chinese have their own specific position, they exist in their own coordinate system. For Lavrov, the desire to coordinate with Brazil and China would be almost a dream, but it will not happen. The non-Western world sees us through a different prism. Countries like Brazil realize that they are part of both the Western and non-Western worlds. Putin will not be able to enlist Brazil as an ally. But it is possible to use it for ritual movements around Chinese principles,” Klimkin emphasized.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva accused Putin and Zelenskyy of “not taking steps to reconcile” and said that it is necessary to create an analog of the G20 to end the war in Ukraine. According to him, he has already discussed this possibility with some states.

The Brazilian leader also emphasized that the United States should stop “encouraging war” in Ukraine and “start talking about peace.” The White House responded by saying that in this case, Brazil was repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda without regard to the facts.

In addition, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko called on the Brazilian president to visit Ukraine and said that Kyiv was watching with interest his efforts to find a solution to end the war.
