Kılıçdaroğlu, Erdoğan share common view on Russia relations policy - Ukraine's Ambassador to Turkey
Turkey's relations with Russia are about traditional deterrence in areas of conflict and cooperation where there are practical interests
Ukraine's Ambassador to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar said this on Espreso TV.
“Discussions about Russia were part of the political struggle, and each candidate tried to use arguments. If you look at the interviews Kılıçdaroğlu gave to foreign media, he talked about a balanced policy towards Russia based on Turkey's interests. President Erdoğan has exactly the same policy. Under his rule, there have been conflicts with Russia, clashes, a downed airplane, and an ambassador killed. There have been armed clashes in Syria, Libya, and Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.
According to Bodnar, this should also be taken into account if we are talking about the entire palette of relations.
“We are talking about traditional deterrence in areas where there are conflicting interests and interaction, where there are practical interests. Now there is a political confrontation over the war - the issue of Ukraine's territorial integrity, the issue of Crimea, international recognition of aggression, but there is also interaction in trade, transportation, energy, and tourism. Erdoğan says that relations with Russia are no less important than with the United States,” the ambassador summarized.
