Infantry can only be replaced by infantry, and this means mobilization — reserve colonel
Former Commander of the Airborne (Air Assault) Forces of Ukraine, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military expert Ivan Yakubets believes that infantry is the main factor in the war, so mobilization is very important
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
"Infantry can only be replaced by infantry. This is a war, and no matter how good the artillery, tanks or other means of fighting are, they help the infantry - this is the main factor. And the infantry is mobilized because people are out of service: they are sick, wounded, dead, and manpower needs to be replenished," the expert explains.
Yakubets stressed that the army cannot be on the frontline all the time: "We can't do that."
"Last year we said: 'Mr Minister of Defense, please draft more people,' and he told us that he had a million in his sights. And we asked: where is that million, if the Russia is attacking or defending, according to intelligence there are 430,000 of them, which means that we have about the same number. Where are the other 600,000, what are they doing? Are they covering other areas? Which ones? In the north, but you can do without there for now, there are no active operations there; in the north-east, too. That is, the army needs to be recalculated, to see where there are redundancies, and there are a lot of personnel," the former commander of the Air Assault Forces of Ukraine stressed.
According to him, mobilization should continue actively. The expert also commented on the information that it is better to mobilize one motivated person than two without motivation:
"Dear friends, you are very much mistaken, you cannot say that. What do you mean by unmotivated, what do you mean he doesn't want to, or he doesn't know how? If he doesn't know how, we will teach him, and if he doesn't want to, we will force him, it's war, how can someone be unmotivated?"
