India urges G20 to move away from war in Ukraine, focus on global poverty
India's negotiator Amitabh Kant has said that at the G20 summit that leaders should focus on global poverty rather than Russia's war against Ukraine
Sky News reports that India's negotiator at the G20 summit urged the G20 representatives to focus on global poverty rather than Russia's war against Ukraine.
Amitabh Kant suggested that by focusing on the 'conflict' Europe has led to a deadlock on the issue of global poverty and debt.
He compared 'one war' to the fact that 200 million people are below the poverty line.
“Nutrition has been impacted, health outcomes have been impacted, learning outcomes have been impacted, people have become stunted and wasted and we are just concerned with one Russia and Ukraine war,” Mr Kant told the G20, a forum for 20 nations to discuss economic cooperation.
“The world needs to move on and Europe needs to find a solution to its challenges,” he said.
The Kremlin does not rule out the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin's participation in the G20 summit in India, but no final decision has been made on this issue.
