Over 280 Ukrainian port facilities hit by Russian attacks since war's outbreak
During the full-scale war, Russia has carried out over 50 attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure, damaging more than 280 facilities and 17 civilian vessels
Serhii Derkach, Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, reported the information on September 13.
“Over the past two years, Russia has destroyed 280 port infrastructure facilities, over 150 vehicles, and 17 civilian vessels, including more than 100,000 tons of grain cargo,” Derkach said.
Given that Ukraine is one of the world's largest agricultural exporters, protecting its ports is crucial for preventing global starvation, he emphasized.
Derkach also reminded that a year ago, Ukraine established a sea corridor that has remained operational despite the ongoing Russian attacks.
“Since then, the ports have handled 2,523 vessels and processed more than 68 million tons of cargo. Of this, 46 million tons of agricultural products have been exported to over 46 countries. This surpasses the exports during the Black Sea Grain Initiative, showing that even amidst war, Ukraine continues to meet its international obligations and plays a significant role in global food security,” Derkach added.
