Germany will immediately hand over 64 Patriot missiles to Ukraine
Germany will give Ukraine 64 more guided air interceptor missiles for the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems
Borys Pistorius, Defence Minister said this on the second day of the meeting of NATO chiefs in Brussels, ntv reports.
"This is a very important sign of sustained support for the successful efforts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to ensure air defence, especially now, at this particular stage of the war," Pistorius said.
Patriot in Ukraine
Ukraine currently has two Patriot air defence systems: one was provided by the United States and the other by Germany and the Netherlands.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine needs 50 Patriot batteries to effectively defend itself against Russian attacks.
On May 16, Russia launched a massive attack on Kyiv with missiles of various types and attack drones. The Patriot system shot down all 6 Kinzals that the occupiers sent to the Ukrainian capital.
British intelligence noted that the vulnerability of the Kinzals came as a surprise to Russia, as the occupiers positioned them as weapons that could not be hit by any air defense system.
According to the WSJ, Ukraine is likely to receive five more Patriot systems by the end of 2024.
