Ukraine's army secretly using American Ghost-X drones with AI since 2022
The Ghost-X is a modular, helicopter-type drone capable of carrying combat payloads and operating autonomously, powered by Lattice artificial intelligence
Ukraine's Defense Forces are using significantly more advanced U.S. weapons than officially disclosed. This is highlighted by a recent revelation about the American Ghost-X UAV, supplied by Anduril, Defense Express reports.
Since 2022, Ukrainian soldiers have been operating this sophisticated drone. Defense One, citing its sources, reports that Ghost-X is one of the drones under the Pentagon's Replicator program, tested in combat against Russia. Previously, it was revealed that Ukraine also used experimental V-BAT drones, hinting that additional secretive technologies may soon come to light.
Details on specific Ghost-X missions in Ukraine remain undisclosed. However, it was noted that real-world use has helped refine its control systems in dense electronic warfare conditions. A key feature is its Mesh networking, allowing drones to exchange data and act as repeaters, maintaining reliable communication with operators.
Ghost-X is a helicopter-type UAV with a communication range of up to 25 km, extendable to 100 km. It has a take-off weight of 25 kg (with two batteries), a flight duration of 75 minutes, and a payload capacity of up to 9 kg.
Its modular design accommodates various payloads, including advanced cameras, laser illuminators, sensors, and radio reconnaissance systems. The drone can also carry combat payloads, such as miniature munitions, enhancing its versatility on the battlefield.
Ghost-X's autonomy includes detecting, classifying, and tracking targets. Its Lattice software, incorporating artificial intelligence, enables the drone or a group of drones to patrol pre-defined areas with minimal operator intervention.
