Ukraine will probably receive five more Patriot systems by end of 2024 — WSJ
Raytheon Technologies plans to manufacture five more batteries of the Patriot air defense system for Ukraine by the end of 2024
This was announced by the company's CEO, Greg Geiss, in a comment for The Wall Street Journal.
He mentioned that the company aims to increase production to 12 Patriot systems per year.
He also stated that the company was impressed by how well the complex performed, along with other air defense systems, in destroying nearly 90% of Russian targets.
It is mentioned that Ukraine has improved the Patriot air defense software to enable the system to track and destroy hypersonic missiles traveling at twice the speed.
Patriot systems in Ukraine
It is worth noting that the country currently possesses two of them. One was provided by the USA, and the other came from Germany in collaboration with the Netherlands.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later expressed that Ukraine requires 50 Patriot batteries to effectively defend against Russian attacks.
The air defense system has already demonstrated success in Ukraine. For instance, on May 4, the Patriot intercepted and shot down the Russian Kh-47 Kinzhal hypersonic missile above Kyiv.
Furthermore, it should be noted that Ukraine and the Netherlands are currently exerting pressure on Spain to transfer the Patriot air defense system battery.
