Germany calls on Turkey and Hungary to stop blocking Sweden and Finland from joining NATO
The head of the German Foreign Ministry Annalena Baerbock called on Turkey and Hungary to stop blocking Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership
This is reported by Handelsblatt.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called on Turkey and Hungary to stop blocking NATO expansion.
"We are in full solidarity," Annalena Baerbok expressed support for Sweden and Finland at a joint press conference with her Swedish counterpart Tobias Billström.
Meanwhile, 28 of NATO's 30 members have ratified the expansion. Turkey continues to demand specific commitments from Stockholm and Helsinki to cooperate more closely in the fight against terrorism.
"There is no gray zone," the Germany’s minister added, because that is exactly what NATO promised to Sweden and Finland at the June summit in Madrid.
The governments of Sweden and Finland have already promised to extradite terrorism suspects to Turkey. But Erdogan is now demanding new concessions.
Hungary announced on Wednesday that it intends to complete ratification by the end of the year.
