Germany asks Switzerland to allow supply of ammunition for Gepard guns to Ukraine
German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht has asked Switzerland to allow the re-export of 35mm ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine
This was reported by Spiegel with reference to Lambrecht.
German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht sent a letter to her Swiss colleague Viola Amherd with a request to allow the re-export of 35mm ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine.
Lambrecht claims that Gepard systems in Ukraine are mainly used to protect critical infrastructure. With this, they also secured seaports in the south of the country, which are key for the export of Ukrainian grain.
Christine Lambrecht stressed that amid the "humanitarian consequences around the world" that the interruption of grain supplies would lead to, Germany and Switzerland should "absolutely comply" with the request for additional ammunition.
It is known that Switzerland tries to maintain military neutrality, so it still refuses permission to supply ammunition produced by the Oerlikon-Bührle company.
