France, Poland dispute over ammunition for Ukraine - military expert Samus
Mykhailo Samus, military expert, the New Geopolitics Research Network’s director, expert of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies, believes that disputes between France and Poland prevent the Ukrainian Armed Forces from providing rapid assistance in the basic ammunition segment
He shared his opinions on Espreso TV’s Verdict with Serhiy Rudenko programme.
"There is objective reality, and our needs cannot be fulfilled overnight. Fortunately, there is no publicly available information on the types of weapons, ammunition and other systems that we were promised. This is because the enemy should have no idea what systems we have received. The situation with ammunition is discussed in the public domain. It seems that the EU has already made decisions and allocated resources in the amount of EUR 1 billion for the production and purchase of ammunition for Ukraine. However, discussions are still ongoing regarding the production and procurement of ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," emphasized Samus.
According to the military expert, disputes have arisen between France and Poland over ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"France insists that this ammunition should be purchased exclusively from EU countries, while Poland says that in order to speed up the process, it is possible to purchase ammunition outside the EU. These disputes on both sides are constructive, but in fact they prevent us from providing quick assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the basic ammunition segment," Samus emphasized.
