Draft declaration of G20 leaders states most members strongly condemn war in Ukraine - Reuters
In the draft 16-page joint declaration, the G20 leaders noted that they condemn the war in Ukraine and stressed that it could have severe consequences for the global economy
This is reported by Reuters.
"Most members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine and stressed it is causing immense human suffering and exacerbating existing fragilities in the global economy," the draft declaration says.
It is assumed that Russia opposed this wording. In particular, they note other views and assessments regarding the situation and sanctions. This was confirmed in the publication by a European diplomat.
The declaration also stressed that the G20 summit is not a forum for resolving security issues and should focus on economic issues. However, the leaders recognise that existing security concerns can significantly affect the global economy.
In addition, in the draft document, G20 leaders called for ensuring the independence of central banks, which in this way can strengthen efforts to contain rapidly growing inflation.
