Czech President authorizes 14 citizens to join Ukrainian Armed Forces
Czech President Petr Pavel has authorized 14 Czech citizens to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces to fight against Russia: The law prohibits Czechs from serving in foreign armed forces without the president's permission
Irozhlas reported the information, citing the president’s spokeswoman Markéta Řeháková.
Currently, 146 Czechs already have permission: 132 received permission from former President Miloš Zeman and another 14 were granted by Petr Pavel.
"As of today (July 29, 2023), President Petr Pavel has signed a total of 14 positive decisions on his approval of the entry of Czech citizens into the armed forces of Ukraine," the spokeswoman said.
In addition, Pavel denied eight citizens' applications. The reasons were not disclosed.
Czechs who take part in hostilities in Ukraine without proper authorization face criminal liability.

Earlier, President Pavel suggested that NATO countries are unlikely to decide to deploy their troops to Ukraine, as this could encourage Russia to use nuclear weapons.
