China's leader opposes use of nuclear weapons in Europe
Chinese President Xi Jinping has told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that he is against the use of nuclear force in Europe
This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the statement of the President of the People's Republic of China.
During the first face-to-face talks between the two leaders in Beijing on Friday, Xi Jinping called on the international community to "reject the threat of nuclear weapons" and oppose nuclear war to prevent a "crisis on the Eurasian continent".
China's leader also emphasized the joint need to ensure the stability of food and energy supply chains, which were disrupted by the Russian Federation's invasion.
The publication emphasizes that Xi Jinping's comments send a clear signal to Putin that nuclear threats are a red line for China, giving Beijing some common ground with Brussels.
The Chinese leader's declaration of an "unrestricted" friendship with Putin ahead of the invasion prompted Europe to reconsider the security risks of expanding economic ties with Beijing.
