'US military aid to Ukraine draws world closer to brink of Armageddon': foreign manipulations for September 18
The Center for Countering Disinformation has published a selection of anti-Ukrainian narratives that were launched in the world media on September 18
According to the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, on September 18, two manipulations appeared in the world.
Manipulation: The American edition of The Hill wrote: "The Biden administration is considering allowing Ukraine to use NATO-provided long-range precision weapons against targets deep inside Russia... Each escalation — from HIMARS to cluster munitions to Abrams tanks to F-16s to ATACMS — draws the world closer to the brink of Armageddon.”
Rebuttal: The supply of arms to Ukraine is aimed at restoring its territorial integrity, not at provoking a global conflict. The spread of such narratives plays into the hands of Russian efforts to prevent Ukraine from supplying weapons for self-defense.
Manipulation: Irish journalist Chay Bowes wrote on his X page: "As Britain pledges billions more in 'aid' to the grossly corrupt Ukrainian dictatorship. An astounding 1.7 million British families won't be able to turn on their heating this winter.”
Rebuttal: The journalist manipulates the topic of aid to Ukraine by falsely claiming that this support takes resources away from British citizens. In fact, assistance to Ukraine is an investment in European security that protects the long-term interests of both Britain and its citizens.
- On September 13, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced new sanctions against Russian propaganda for attempts to "undermine and polarize free and open societies." This refers, in particular, to the RT television company.
